Serbia has a network of five Aarhus Centres. The first Aarhus Centre was inaugurated in 2010 in the city of Kragujevac, followed by the Aarhus Centres Novi Sad and Subotica in 2011. In 2012, an Aarhus Centre opened in the south-eastern city of Niš. In 2015, the Aarhus Centre Novi Beograd was inaugurated in the capital Belgrade. The Aarhus Centres of Serbia focus on building and facilitating participatory local governance processes and on promoting dialogue on environmental issues. The Aarhus Centres are also working on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), particularly flood risk reduction. 

  • Aarhus Centre Kragujevac

    The Centre was formed by experts who have recognized the public need to be informed about basic human rights for a healthy environment, and to influence decision-making at local and national level.

  • Aarhus Centre New Belgrade

    The mission of Aarhus Centre New Belgrade is to foster implementation of the Convention in Belgrade with the special focus on New Belgrade - the city’s biggest municipality -.

  • Aarhus Centre Novi Sad

    The Centre helps government authorities fulfil their obligations by promoting appropriate legislation and practices targeting access to information, public participation and access to justice in environmental matters.
  • Aarhus Centre of South and East Serbia

    The Centre was formed by experts who recognized the public need to be informed about basic human rights for a healthy environment, and to influence decision-making at local and national level.

  • Regional Aarhus Centre Subotica

    At the initiative of Association TERRA’S and with OSCE support, the Centre was established with a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Environment, the City of Subotica and the Open University.
