The Aarhus Centre Khujand supports and promotes the implementation of the Aarhus Convention in Khujand and the Sughd Province, in Northern Tajikistan.
YGPE initiated its activity in 2000 and since then has been recognized as one of the successful leaders in the areas of poverty reduction and sustainable ecological development. YGPE implemented more than 35 long-term projects. More than 22000 beneficiaries in 11 districts of Sughd region received direct support actively taking part in the projects. Over the last 10 years, the projects and activities have been implemented on climate change adaptation in cooperation with regional CoES through access to information, introduction of innovation technologies such as reservation of biodiversity, prevention of land degradation and construction of mitigation projects promoting better living standards for communities exposed to climate change effects. Through educative programs, YGPE directly engages communities in practical ecological activities and raises their awareness and capacity on solving socio-ecological problems. Moreover, YGPE works closely with government, international and non-governmental institutions for the coordination and sustainability of actions performed.
The activities are implemented within three program directions:
